For the 10th anniversary of March MATness, we go #backtobasics

In our practice, we are all too familiar with the importance of frequently returning to basics, for a strong foundation is everything! For March MATness, “back to basics” means honing in on what this campaign originally set out to do—involve the Pilates community in mutually supportive conversations around the Pilates method while celebrating what unites every practitioner: the original Mat exercises.

Visit this page every day in March to check out the exercise of the day with a sneak peak into the 360° Pilates video catalog, and follow the link at the bottom of the page to help us determine which direction to take March MATness into for the next 10 years!

Exercise of the day: The Push Up

Push Up on the Mat strengthens the upper and central body, builds dynamic stability in the torso, and returns the body onto the feet. The challenge is to actively pull the body forward on the hands to maintain postural control.

Tell us about what March MATness means to you and help us shape its future!

Back to basics means taking stock, and for us, it also means looking to where March MATness could be headed in its next 10 years. Since 2013, the way Pilates is represented has changed significantly, and so has the social media environment where March MATness lives. While we will continue to cheerlead the flooding of the internet with Pilates images and musings for the month of March, we also wonder if there is more we can do with this community-lead effort to celebrate Pilates.

We have mulled over many ideas… a coffee table book for Pilates lovers, for example. Or a book about the impact of Pilates. A podcast, perhaps. Or what about an annual retreat or convention to bring everyone together? There are more ideas where these came from, but March MATness wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for the community that leads it, so we want to involve you in the future of Pilates!

How, you ask?

First, by participating. Show us and those that celebrate your love of movement and Pilates.
Then, by letting us know where you see the future of March MATness going.
Lastly, by getting involved. We can’t do this alone and are looking to build a peer-group of Pilates lovers and advocates to bring March MATness to the next level.

We put together a simple survey to get the ball rolling (pun 100% intended) and accomplish all of the above! If you have a few minutes, we’d love for you to complete it:
